Northern Railways’ Ferozepur division has collected Rs 2.69 crore, including from the Amritsar Railway station, by penalising ticketless passengers and those who were found littering railway stations in July.
During ticket checking in trains during July, a total of 43,092 passengers were found travelling without ticket or irregularly by the ticket checking staff and Chief Ticket Inspectors of the division. A total revenue of Rs 2.69 crore was recovered from them as fine.
This has increased the income of Ferozepur division as the railway officials also conducted frequent surprise ticket checking campaigns to prevent unauthorised entry of passengers in trains, in which passengers were advised to travel in trains with proper tickets.
To keep the railway stations of the division clean and stop the general public from littering at stations and make them aware about cleanliness, regular checking is done at the main stations of the division.
As a result, Rs 75,200 was recovered from 414 passengers in July for littering in the station premises (Anti-Littering Act).
Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar said the ticket checking staff of the division conducted intensive ticket checking in trains to curb ticketless and irregular travel to provide comfortable travel and better services to all genuine rail users.
The main objective of ticket checking is to improve the sale of railway tickets and to ensure that no passenger travels without ticket, i.e. the target of zero ticketless travel has been set in Ferozepur division.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Paramdeep Singh Saini said besides increasing the railway revenue, the ticket checking staff of Ferozepur division also performed social duty by helping the passengers.
To boost the morale of the railway employees doing commendable work, they are honoured with appreciation certificates.
