Amritsar, June 18
An NRI allegedly shot a gym owner dead outside posh Dream City colony in Manawala located on the main Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road area here late on Friday evening.
The incident left three persons injured, who were rushed to the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Narinder Singh (36), a resident of Ghanupur Kale and the injured include prime suspect and NRI Mohinderpal Singh, Ranjodh Singh, alias Sunny Yamaha, and Charanjit Singh.
Following preliminary probe, Chattiwind police have booked Mohinderpal Singh, Inderpal Singh, Mukesh Seth, Kanwaljit Singh and their unidentified accomplice. Mohinderpal was admitted to a private hospital following a bullet injury, the police said. They were booked on the charge of murder, attempt to murder besides other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act following Charanjit Singh, alias Jigar Singh’s complaint.
As per preliminary probe, the incident was an outcome of some monetary dispute between two colonisers including NRI Mohinderpal Singh and Michael. Narinder Singh was invited by Michael, who had a monetary dispute with Mohinderpal.
Michael alleged that Mohinderpal along with his accomplices started firing in an inebriated position and a bullet hit Narinder, Ranjodh and Charanjit. Narinder died on the spot, while Ranjodh and Charanjit also sustained bullet injuries.
Manmeet Pal Singh, SHO, Chatiwind police station, said there was a party of real estate people and colonisers at Dream City colony. Mohinderpal and Michael entered into a heated exchange of words over some pending amount invested in a property. He said both parties left the scene, but came face to face outside the entrance gate of Dream City locality near Manawala. They entered into a verbal duel that led to firing. Around 22 rounds were fired during the incident.
He said Mohinderpal could not be arrested as he was injured. He was recuperating at a private hospital, while raids were on to arrest the remaining suspects. The NRI had a licenced weapon. The veracity of all weapons used in the crime would be ascertained.
