Amritsar, July 19

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appointed Prabhbir Brar (31) as the district president of the party. He is perhaps the youngest district president appointed by any political party in the state.

In an interaction with The Tribune, Brar said, “By forming the government in the state we have just won a battle. The war is still on.” He added that for complete overhaul of the political system, the traditional corrupt leaders and their mohalla-level supporters need to be sidelined.

“Our objective is to produce honest and dedicated leaders at the grassroots level. Only then we can hope of a corruption-free and just society,” he said, adding that as a young leader he would strive to bring in more youth power to the party.

Will strive to bring more youth power to party

By forming the government in the state we have just won a battle. The war is still on. As a young leader, I will strive to bring in more youth power to the party. — Prabhbir Brar, AAP district president

Talking about his political journey, Brar said, “It was few days before the 2014 General Election in the country that I along with a few friends decided to join the party.” Brar said he did not know a single person in the party and directly went to a roadside kiosk set by the party on the Sultanwind road.

“The old person managing the kiosk told me about the party office on the Mall road,” he said. Brar added that at the time he had just completed his diploma and was getting ready to pursue his degree course from abroad.

“Such was the passion that I refused to go to a foreign country even as my admission was confirmed,” Brar said, adding that his parents wanted him to go, but he had decided to stay back and join the political movement.
