Tarn Taran: A resident of Chamba khurd was injured during an exchange of fire between two groups of armed youths in Jamarai village on Thursday. As many as seven people had been booked under Sections 307, 336,148,149 of the IPC and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act by Goindwal Sahib police. Preetinder Singh, DSP, Goindwal Sahib said the injured had been identified as Gurtej Singh. He was on his motorcycle when the assailants who were in a car hit his motorcycle. When he fell down, he fired at the car-borne assailants. They too fired at him in which he was injured. The DSP said Gurtej is the brother Nikka Khaduria, a gangster. OC
Two die, 22 new cases in district
Amritsar: The district reported two deaths and 22 new cases in the past 24 hours. With the deaths, the toll due to the disease has increased to 1,680 in the district. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Jagir Kaur, a resident of Baba Bakala and 46-year-old woman from the Batala road. Of the 22 cases reported on Friday, 21 are new cases and one is a contact of positive patient. The district has reported a total of 59,278 cases. The district Health Department also reported the recovery of 39 patients with which the total count of those who recovered from the illness has increased to 57,546.
