Amritsar: The Post Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Khalsa College, Amritsar, organised an open mic competition. Principal Mehal Singh said the motive was to provide a platform for the youth to showcase their prowess as future journalists. He also added that due to their busy lifestyles, young people do not get time to develop their hobbies or creative abilities, so keeping these reasons in mind, the college organises such events to enhance the art of the students. On the occasion, prof Jaspreet Kaur, Dean of Arts, Sania Marwaha, and Head of the Department, said open mic is a platform that gives an opportunity to emerging poets, storytellers and comedians to showcase their talent.

School magazine re-launched

SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School re-launched its annual school magazine SeHaj Sarovar. Manpreet Kaur, former principal of Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar, and presently serving as dean, SSSS College of Arts, Maqboolpura, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Director Jagdish Singh re-launched the magazine, advising students to remain focused and disciplined in their pursuit of new heights. Principal Gurrattan Singh emphasised that the magazine served as a mirror reflecting the entire year’s activities, showcasing students’ calibre and nurturing their creative writing initiatives. Manpreet Kaur echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the magazine’s role in fostering students’ creativity and showcasing their accomplishments. Giani Kewal Singh, former jathedar, Sabo Ki Talwandi, also joined the event.

Career conclave organised

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organised two-day career conclave in association with SSSS College of Commerce and Allied Studies. The resource person, Saroj Bala, Dean, College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, while addressing the gathering said that for the career development and becoming a good citizen of the nation, one needs to have awareness, understand the self through self-assessment, to learn soft and hard skills required in the area of interest. Prof Amit Chopra, director, placements, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, during the second session talked about the ‘Journey Towards Success’. For being successful, one has to move to right direction, reflect on the target to be achieved and take actions accordingly. For professional growth, the resource person emphasised on setting and regular assessment of the milestones, following the disciplined and healthy life.

Internship-cum-placement drive

An internship-cum-placement drive for the BSc (nursing), GNM and ANM nursing students, was organised at Khalsa College of Nursing(KCN) in which over 30 students got the jobs in the Ivy, Amandeep and Parvati hospitals. Students were selected on the basis of written tests and interviews, said principal Amanpreet Kaur. She said the KCN had made efforts to organise several workshops, maintain excellent results and internship training to enhance the practical skills of student nurses which in turn have helped them to secure their placements in the best, well-recognised institutions. She said making students job-ready is their main focus. Representative from the above hospitals said KCN was taking major initiatives for training and placement of the students.

Workshop organised for drivers

ADCP Traffic Harpal Singh, SI Daljit Singh, incharge of Traffic Education Cell and his team organised an awareness seminar at Spring Dale School, Fatehgarh Choorian Road, for drivers and school van drivers, informing about the Safe School Vehicle Policy. They were informed about the traffic rules and pamphlets were distributed to school van drivers explaining the traffic rules. They checked first aid kit, gas extinguisher, CCTV camera, speed governor, in the vehicles and briefed the helpers that the children should always be carefully boarded and disembarked from the bus. Principal Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Jasminder Singh Bhinder, transport Coordinator, and members of Haryawal Punjab were present.
