A petition demanding fair sentencing for Harjinder Singh, an Indian-origin truck driver charged in a fatal crash in Florida, has gained massive response, with more than 2.6 million verified signatures in just a few days.

Harjinder Singh, 28, originally from Rataul village in Tarn Taran district, was arrested after a tragic accident on August 12 in Florida. He allegedly made an illegal U-turn that caused blocking the road. A car collided with the trailer, killing three persons on the spot.

Harjinder had entered the US illegally in 2018 and later obtained a commercial driver’s license in California.

The online petition, addressed to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, argues that the accident was not intentional and calls the potential sentence “disproportionate and inhumane.”

Supporters are urging authorities to consider leniency, parole eligibility, or alternatives such as community service.

The political leaders mainly Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and community groups demanded fair trial. His kin at native village Rataul has also demanding fair sentence in the case.
