There has been no respite for residents and shopkeepers of many localities on Shani Mandir road in Tarn Taran from the foul smell emanating from overflowing sewage at different points. The sewer leakage has been persisting for months now.

Local residents like Vimal, Nitan Kumar, Dr Baljit Singh, Deepak, Vijay Kumar, Goldi and others said here on Sunday that the leaking sewerage water was not only emanating a foul smell, but had also damaged roads with deep potholes emerging on them. Filled with waste water, these pits on roads have been troubling commuters.

Residents of Sun Rise Enclave and other areas said they had been bringing their problem to the notice of Municipal Council officials in writing, but due attention was not being paid to it. Arvinderpal Singh, SDM-cum-Administrator, and Randeep Singh Waraich, Executive Officer (EO) of the Municipal Council, neither responded to mobile phone calls nor to SMS or WhatsApp messages when this correspondent tried to reach them for their views on the issue.
