Paddy arrival recorded at over 2L MT, govt agencies start lifting
With government agencies starting procurement, more paddy has started arriving in the markets of the district. District mandi officials said nearly 2,09,596 metric tonnes (MT) of crop, including 2,01,477 MT of basmati, had arrived in the markets so far.
Today’s total purchase was 15,272 MT. The maximum purchase was made by private players at 14,665 MT while government agencies purchased only 607 MT. So far, total government procurement had reached at 741 MT.
Owing to high moisture content in grains, procurement was going on at slow place. District agriculture officials said most crops in the district were not yet ready for harvesting. Officials appealed to farmers to bring fully ripened crop to the market so that it could be purchased on the same day and added that harvesting would pick up pace after 10 days. The agencies were not ready to purchase grains with more moisture than the permissible limit, they said. The Central Government had fixed 17 per cent moisture content as permissible limit for the procurement of paddy grains, officials said.
The government has set up 50 procurement centres in the district. All arrangements were in place at mandis so that farmers do not face any problem while selling their produce.
Officials said that so far, 2,05,508 MT of paddy has been lifted while government agencies lifted only 18 MT of paddy.
