Passengers urged to avoid single-use plastic
As part of the ongoing 'World Environment Day' campaign, the Northern Railway's Ferozepur Division organised a street play at Amritsar Railway Station on Friday. The play, staged by the division's scout and guide team, aimed to raise awareness among passengers and railway staff about environmental conservation and the dangers of using single-use plastic. The campaign will culminate on World Environment Day, June 5.
Through the engaging street play, the audience was encouraged to avoid single-use plastics in their daily lives. The play also emphasised the importance of using reusable packaging bags to help reduce micro-plastic pollution.
Passengers were further educated on the proper use of bio-toilets, the importance of disposing of waste in dustbins and the need to cooperate with railway authorities in maintaining cleanliness on trains and at stations.
In addition, intensive cleaning drives were conducted at key railway stations like Ferozepur Cantt, Jalandhar City, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Beas and Phagwara. These efforts included large-scale mechanised cleaning.
