Amritsar, January 14
The Gharinda police have arrested a drug peddler identified as Gurwinder Singh, aka Lalla Suniara, a resident of Lahorimal village, and recovered an illegal pistol from his possession.
His name cropped up during interrogation of Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Ucha Killa, Harsha Chhinna village, and Mandeep Singh, a resident of Maude village. They were arrested last month with 500 gm and 300 gm of heroin, respectively.
Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, DSP, Attari sub-division, said Gurpreet Singh was held with contraband on December 2, 2023. He was arrested at a naka in Rorawala village. The police had seized a ledger, parcel packing material and a mobile phone from him at that time. His interrogation led to the arrest of Mandeep Singh, who worked as a peon at the government school in Maude village. The police seized 300 gm contraband from him.
Investigations revealed that Gurpreet used to smuggle contraband from across the border fence while Mandeep worked as his courier. Lalla Suniara was their supplier who supplied drugs in Lahorimal village. He was evading arrest for the past one month. The DSP said Suniara would be produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation. More seizures were likely to be made during further probe, he added.
