Phulkari celebrates seventh anniversary

Phulkari WOA, marked its seventh foundation anniversary by hosting a poetry convention, titled “Eight to Infinity Where Poetry Meets Eternity”, featuring eminent poets and members of its community in Amritsar.

Curating community outreach events to mark its eighth year, Phulkari also announced extension of its several voluntary campaigns, including the conquer cancer initiative, digital literacy programme and environmental sensitisation. “Phulkari’s most significant programme is towards making Punjab the first cervical cancer free state in the country. Today’s programme featured a special poetry performance by Poetrusic, a group of women who perform poetry. They do performances and workshops tailored to audiences in almost any setting. We celebrated women, who made a difference and continue to do so in their own way,” said Sheetal Sohal, president of Phulkari WOA.

Poetrusic’s members — Neeti Singh, Shubha Shashank Shah and Rohan Pradeep Malode — performed poetry by making it immersive through music and context.

Founder of Phulkari and former president Praneet Bubber recited a poem, written by Phulkari member Saloni Poddar, celebrating Phukari’s journey and its future. “The idea of Phulkari is to build and expand the community of women, who are proactive and change makers. Through our community outreach programmes, we focus on empowering youth, women and children towards issues that are global, but require local action,” said Praneet.
