Amritsar, February 15

Phulkari—Women of Amritsar (WOA) held the third edition of Arpan, the mela of happiness at Nishkam Sewa Public School, Amritsar. The fete held in collaboration with Edufied, brought joy on the faces of underprivileged children from the school’s Attari branch, slum dwellings in the vicinity and Nishkam Sewa Public School.

Around 170 children participated in the mela, enjoying a day filled with games, entertainment activities and food. A team of 35 volunteers from Phulkari and Edufied helped organise the event, which began with Saraswati puja to mark Basant Panchami.

Children were entertained with table pong, ringo toss, tattoo and face painting, bouncy castles and even a fire show. Food stalls serving a variety of treats were sponsored by Phulkari members, ensuring that no child goes hungry.

The mela was organised by Phulkari Functional English Programme head, Minakshi Khanna and Sangeeta Seth, along with Edufied founder Ankit Arora. Nishkam Sewa Public School students take part in the philanthropic functional English programme by Phulkari. Launched in 2018, the programme helps underprivileged children from middle and secondary schools to move towards a brighter future through education by training them in spoken English and communication skills, improving their employment prospects.
