The Judicial Department organised a function dedicated to World Environment Day on Friday at the Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib. Justice Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa, District and Sessions Judge, who is also the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), presided over the event. Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa, along with the Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of DLSA, planted saplings within the jail complex.
Officials from the Jail, the Judicial Department and the Forest Department were present on the occasion and pledged to plant saplings to help make the environment cleaner, greener and pollution-free. Saplings were distributed among the convicts and undertrial prisoners, encouraging them to plant these on the jail premises.
Justice Bajwa advised the inmates to take care of the plants and water them regularly. A free medical camp was also organised during the event and medicines were distributed.
In his address, the Judicial Officer emphasised the importance of all sections of society dedicating themselves to making the environment eco-friendly, adding that trees provide sufficient oxygen for a healthy life. Kulwinder Singh, Superintendent, along with his subordinate officials and staff, informed Justice Bajwa about their ongoing efforts to maintain a green and pollution-free jail complex.
