Police conduct raids at 23 places, arrest 17 with illicit liquor, heroin

In a crackdown on consumers of drugs and those accused of involvement in drug trade, the district police arrested 17 in raids conducted at 23 different places on Friday. The police informed here on Saturday that three persons were arrested with 26 grams of heroin. They were identified as Kala Singh of Kadgill, Charanjit Singh of Rasulpur and Balwinder Singh Bler. Three others were arrested while consuming heroin and have been identified as Pawandeep Singh, Salman Singh of Chabal Kalan and Harkanwaljit Singh of Bhaini Mattuan. The police added that Satnam Singh of Cheema Khurd village, Satnam Singh of Fatehpur Sugga village and Harpal Singh Thatta were also arrested with 347 intoxicating tablets.

In a raid conducted at Sran Talwandi village, the Verowal police and the staff of the Excise Department arrested Yodhbir Singh Yoda with a working still, 150 litres of lahan and 11,250 ml (15 bottles) of illicit liquor. Seven others were arrested with 49,500 ml (66 bottles) of Illicit liquor from different places.

The police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Excise Act and the NDPS Act.
