Police conduct search op at Guru Ki Wadali
As part of the state-wide campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, the Amritsar city police commissionerate today carried out cordon and search operation (CASO) at Guru Ki Wadali in the Chheharta area which is infamous for drug abuse in the city.
Special Director General Police (DGP) Shashi Prabha Dwivedi supervised the operation. She was accompanied by Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alam Vijay Singh.
Speaking to mediapersons, she said since the launch of the state-wide campaign, the city police had arrested 216 drug traffickers in 113 cases registered with various police stations here in the past 28 days. She said the police recovered 35.9 kg of heroin, Rs 10.33 lakh of drug money apart from 16 sophisticated pistols during this period.
The police also seized over 2 kg of opium and other narcotic substances and 18 suspicious vehicles from the accused, she said.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said 300 cops led by the senior officials conducted the operation during which they searched houses of suspects, besides checking vehicles in the area.
The DGP also interacted with women of the area. She said the police was regularly holding police-public meetings under the Operation Sampark to make the general public aware and seek their help in the noble cause of eradicating the drug menace from society.
