Police crack down on illicit liquor trade, six held
In a crackdown on the illicit liquor trade, teams of different police stations arrested six persons and recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor and lahan from different locations here on Saturday.
The police said on Sunday that the Verowal police recovered 800 litres of lahan kept in four small drums, which were hidden in the bushes at Gagagrewal village. The police said the unclaimed lahan was destroyed on the spot.
Meanwhile, the Patti police arrested Satinder Singh, a resident of Buraj Nathu-Ke Toda village, as 40 litres of lahan was recovered from his residence.
The police said the Chabal police arrested Sukhwinder Singh Kalu, a resident of Pakka Qilha, Chabal, as 33,750 ml of illicit liquor was recovered from him on the Tarn Taran road in Chabal. Rohit, a resident of Pandori Gola village, was arrested with 11,270 ml of illicit liquor by Sadar police.
The Chohla Sahib police arrested Baljinder Singh, a resident of Jauneke village, and recovered 6,750 ml of illicit liquor from him. The Khemkaran police arrested Karanpreet Singh, a resident of Gazal village, with the same quantity of illicit liquor. In another case, the Kacha Pakka police arrested Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Bhaini Gurmukh Singh, and recovered 5,250 ml of illicit liquor. A case was registered.
