Cracking the murder of a married woman in the posh Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Avenue here within 24 hours, the police have arrested a plumber identified as Vickey, a resident of Rajasansi area.

The police said the accused was arrested from Hoshiarpur this morning. He used a kitchen knife to kill the victim.

“We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.  Apparently, Vickey was known to the family and therefore Shelly Arora allowed him to enter the house. What happened thereafter that could have led to the murder, is yet to be established,” Police Commissioner, Ranjit Singh Dhillon said.

While escaping the scene, he decamped with two gold rings and a two-wheeler from the house.

As per a preliminary probe, Vickey was earlier lodged in the Kapurthala jail in a theft case. He recently came out on bail on August 5. He said the accused would be produced before a court and brought on police remand for further investigations to ascertain the motive.

Shelly Arora was found murdered at her residence yesterday morning. She was alone at home when the incident took place. The incident came to light when the housemaid arrived and found her lying in the pool of blood near the bed.

She informed the neighbours who called her husband Kaushal Arora, a bank employee. She was taken to hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
