Investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages of arrested accused
In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested four drug peddlers and seized 1.696 kg of heroin, two pistols and live cartridges in two separate operations.
According to the police, teams from the Mehta and Jandiala police stations conducted the raids following credible intelligence inputs.
In the first case, the Mehta police arrested Kuldeep Singh of Khabe Rajputan village and Abhideep Singh of Basrawan village and recovered 1.596 kg of heroin, an electronic weighing machine, and a Platina motorcycle (PB18-N-2802) from their possession.
DSP Ravinder Singh said both accused were caught at a naka set up on the link road leading from Khabe Rajputan to Butter Kalan following a secret tip-off. Investigations were on to ascertain the source of the contraband which was suspected to be smuggled from Pakistan via drones.
In another operation, the Jandiala police arrested two men, identified as Gagandeep Singh, alias Gazni, of Jyotisar Colony and Sunny Singh, alias Nanni, of Shekhupur Mohalla in Jandiala Guru. The arrests were made at Bhatha Chowk, Amarkot, where the police recovered 100 gm heroin, two .30 bore pistols, four live cartridges, and Rs 1,000 drug money from them.
A separate case under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act has been registered in this connection.
Police officials said investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the arrested accused. “Anyone found connected with this illegal trade will face strict legal action,” said DSP Ravinder Singh, reaffirming the department’s commitment to eradicating drugs from the region.
