‘Pray on Mahavir jayanti for peace’

Amritsar: The All-India Shwetambar Sthanakwasi Jain Conference has called upon the adherents of Jain religion to pray on the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir falling on April 6, for the betterment and world peace to overcome the challenge of Covid-19. Sameer Jain of the conference said all Jain families residing in the country must recite the mahamantar of Navokar while staying inside their houses for an hour from 9 am on Monday. He hoped that this recitation will free the world from coronavirus. He said the Mahavir Jain Yuvak Mandal would organise recitation of Navokar Mantar for 10 crore times on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. He informed that Bhagwan Mahavir was born about 2,618 years ago in a city in eastern Bihar. He said the practice of non-violence in all departments of life would free the humanity of different diseases. TNS

Action sought against docs

Amritsar: Sikh leader Baldev Singh Sirsa on Saturday lodged a complaint with the Police Commissioner seeking registration of case against several doctors for alleged negligence during the treatment of Padma Shri Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa, who died after contracting coronavirus two days ago. He named several doctors in the complaint and said a recording of the conversation between doctors and family members established that the doctors did not take the disease seriously, thereby leading to his death.
