The police claimed that it was his brother-in-law Bhupinder Singh who had shot at him. A property dispute is stated to be the reason behind the incident, though further investigation was under way, said investigating officer Satnam Singh.

Karan, who works as a store keeper in the Military Engineering Services (MES) in the Cantonment area, told the police that on Monday, when he was going to office he saw two unknown persons on a scooter near Guru Gobind Singh Chowk on the Majitha road. They were armed with a revolver and shot at him. He sustained a bullet injury on the back. He said he called his brother-in-law Tarsem Singh and sister Rajwant Kaur who admitted him to a hospital.

Satnam Singh said a preliminary probe zeroed in on Karan’s brother-in-law Bhupinder Singh who had been absconding since the incident. He said raids were on to nab him. His arrest would help in the identification of his accomplice. A case of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act was registered against him, added the investigating officer.
