PSU bank told to pay Rs 7K to complainant
Amritsar, February 2
The district consumer disputes redressal forum has directed a bank to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation and Rs 2,000 as litigation costs to a local resident from whose account Rs 1,500 had been debited, though the HDFC ATM did not dispense the amount during transaction.
The complainant, Radhika, a resident of Hargobind Avenue, had filed a complaint against HDFC Bank and Bank of India stating that on November 21, 2018, she had made a transaction of Rs 2,500 from the HDFC ATM. She stated that she had received only Rs 1,000 and the remaining amount of Rs 1,500 was not dispensed by the ATM.
But Rs 2,500 was deducted from his account with Bank of India. She said she informed the guard about the issue immediately who assured that the machine was not working properly and the amount would be credited into her account shortly.
The complainant said she made paid many visits to the offices of HDFC and Bank of India, but the money was not credited into her account.
HDFC in its reply stated that the remaining amount of Rs 1,500 was paid to Bank of India on December 12, 2018. Bank of India in its reply stated that the amount had since been deposited into the account of the complainant on April 22, 2019, and as such “the present complaint becomes infructuous”. The forum observed that as HDFC had paid the amount to Bank of India on December 12, 2018, and it credited the amount into the complainant’s account on April 22, 2019.
It stated that as such the fault lies with Bank of India for not crediting the amount of Rs 1,500 after such a long time after taking the same from HDFC. It stated Bank of India is liable to pay the compensation and litigation expenses for causing harassment to the complainant. — TNS
