Punjab Police recover 2kg heroin on drug peddler’s disclosure in Amritsar

The police on Sunday recovered 2kg contraband from near defence drain in Hardo Rattan border village here on the disclosure of accused Namdev, who was arrested with 1kg heroin on Saturday.

Police said during investigation, the accused disclosed about the location and coordinates which he allegedly received on his mobile phone from Pakistan-based smugglers.

Attari DSP Sukhjinder Singh Thapar said the contraband was hidden underground near the defence drain by cross-border smugglers. “After hiding the contraband, the Pakistani smugglers sent the location and coordinates to Namdev who was yet to retrieve it from there,” he said.

The probe carried out so far revealed that he was in touch with a Pakistani smuggler, namely Tanvir aka Rana, whose name had figured in many drug peddling cases in the past.

Acting on a tip off, the Amritsar rural police had seized 1kg heroin and arrested Namdev of Kot Khalsa among two persons. The police had also confiscated Rs 60,000 of drug money and the scooter on which they were travelling at the time of seizure.
