Hosting the 21st annual Teachers’ Appreciation Ceremony, the World Punjabi Heritage Foundation honoured 40 teachers at Virsa Vihar on the eve of Teachers’ Day. Founder-president of the Foundation, Bhupinder Singh Sandhu, said that in present times, it has become important to honour teachers and provide them with a platform for discussions, so that future generations get the right guidance.
Hockey Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Brigadier Harchand Singh Marar said that receiving the award increases the enthusiasm of teachers, and their responsibility also. District Education Officer (Secondary) Rajesh Kumar Sharma congratulated the teachers who were honoured and said that with technology taking over classroom teaching, a gap in the relationship between the teacher and the student seems to have emerged, which needs to be addressed.
Author Dr Arvinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that teachers have great importance in the life of their students. “And while that power comes with responsibility and accountability, today’s teachers need to meet with learning and emotional requirements of the student and not just text-book learning,” she said.
