High-velocity winds with rain affected normal life in Tarn Taran on Sunday with knee-deep water accumulating on roads in town and its surrounding areas.

The sudden storm and rain filled the roads and paths with water within no time, halting the movement of two-wheelers. The alleged faulty drainage system, reason for the town getting inundated by rainwater, remained choked for hours even after the downpour had ceased.

Farmer Dilbag Singh, a resident of Lalu Ghuman village, however, said that the storm and rain had caused no harm to agriculture except for the horticulture and vegetable crops.

There were reports that some parts of the border area in Khalra witnessed heavy rain but there was no rain in Khemkaran area. Patti town and its adjoining villages witnessed storm and showers, said former Sarpanch of Assal Uttar village, Gurmeet Singh. He said the rain would be helpful for sowing the next crop.
