While the first memorandum asked Aujla to table a private member’s Bill in Lok Sabha for fixing the MSP of crops as per the report of the Dr Swaminathan Commission and a legal guarantee for the same, the farmers requested the MP to hand over the second memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The second memorandum is meant to remind the PM of the promises made by him during the Delhi Morcha. The farmer leaders present on the occasion stated that the SKM had ended the Delhi Morcha after the Prime Minister promised he would keep his word.

While addressing the farmers from various unions, Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that the Congress stands firmly with the farmers and supports their genuine demands. He said that as a Lok Sabha member, he would take up farmers’ issues inside parliament as well as outside it.

He added that the Congress has been struggling to get the legitimate demands of the farmers fulfilled and will continue to do so in future as well.

Prominent farmer leaders present on the occasion included Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, Kulwant Singh Mallunangal, Dhanwant Singh Khatraekalan, Jatinder Singh Chinna and Balkar Singh Dudala, among others.
