Amritsar: Rangla Punjab ends with riveting lit sessions

Amritsar, February 25

Rangla Punjab, the cultural festival, has been displaying myriad colours of literature, food, music, valour and Punjab’s hospitality and drawing visitors of every age-group. Different locations are highlighting various aspects of Punjab. After the resounding success of the first day of the Literature Festival at Partition Museum, the second and final day also proved to be a literary treat for one and all.

There was a spellbinding session between Dr Surjit Patar, a celebrated Punjabi poet and recipient of Padma Shri and Professor Sarbjot Singh Behl, an academic and architect, passionate about poetry.

The second session saw Seema Kohli, an experimental multi-disciplinary artist, in a delightful conversation with Sanjoy K Roy, art entrepreneur and Managing Director of Teamwork Arts. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori was also present at the Literature Festival. After the sessions, the audience was treated to a guided tour through Amritsar’s walled city with fascinating stories told by professional storytellers who know the city’s history inside out.

The finale was a repeat of an inspiring play by the youngsters of Khalsa College which threw light on the glorious legacy and history of Punjab and Amritsar and instilled pride in the hearts of the audience.

1,650 youth take part in marathon

Jasbir Kaur won the first position in the girls’ category in the 5 km “Greenathon” organised by the Punjab government to spread the message of wellness in Amritsar as part of the Rangla Punjab Mela. Prizes of Rs 25,000 were given to the first place winners. Sukhmandeep Kaur came second, Kanchan was third, Harpreet Kaur was fourth and Laksh Preet Kaur fifth.

Similarly, in the boys’ category, Tarun got the first prize, Jashnpreet Singh second, Gurdeep Singh third, Balbir Kumar fourth and Shivjit Singh fifth. The administration gave away Rs 25,000 for the first place winners, Rs 20,000 for the second place, Rs 15,000 for the third place, Rs 10,000 for the fourth place and Rs 5,000 for the fifth place winners. The race started in the morning from Amrit Anand Park, which was flagged off by the constituency MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the youth in this marathon and about 1,650 youth participated.

Additional Director Tourism Rakesh Popli, Additional Municipal Commissioner Surinder Singh, Secretary RTA Arshdeep Singh, SDM Arvinder Pal Singh, Arvinder Singh Bhatti, District Sports Officer Sukhchain Singh and other officials were also present on the occasion.
