Amritsar, July 17
The district Red Cross Society received a new-born girl at its Pangura scheme. Started by the district administration in 2008 with the help of Red Cross, it succeeded in saving the lives of 191 children so far.
A new-born girl was placed in a cradle installed at its office, which is situated on the Old Jail Road, at 10.30 am on July 13. The girl was immediately sent to Parvati Devi Hospital. The child is admitted at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment and is healthy.
DC Ghanshyam Thori said under the scheme, the process of sending the infant to Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale Foundation would be completed. After the completion of the formalities prescribed by the government, the organisation will offer the infant to the needy families. Praising this unique initiative, Thori said this cradle saved 191 innocent lives and deserves appreciation. The fact that a large number of children so far are girls was a matter of seriousness.
