Residential area turns into commercial lane, AAP leader seeks vigilance probe
Amritsar, august 24
With the alleged connivance of Municipal Town Planning (MTP) wing officials, the Mehnga Singh Saini road adjoining Khalsa College for Women has turned into a commercial lane as most residents have converted their houses into shops.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader from ward number 77 Virat Devgun wrote to senior officials about the inconvenience being faced by residential localities because of the frequent traffic jams. Devgun, who is also a member of Punjab Education Development Board, met the MC Commissioner and submitted a memorandum for taking action on the complaints filed by him against illegal constructions in the area.
“I have submitted several complaints to the MC Commissioner about illegal commercial buildings in my ward. Most of the construction work has been completed but the MC didn’t take any action. There are around 70 illegal commercial buildings under construction in the city during the past two months. These illegal commercial constructions burdened roads, sewer and potable water supply,” said Devgun.
“The mafia has been constructing these buildings without paying a single penny to the MC and government. It is a major loss to the public exchequer. The buildings are being constructed in connivance with Municipal Town Planning wing officials. The MC should demolish the illegal buildings and take action against corrupt officials,” he said. He also wrote to CM Bhagwant Mann for ordering a vigilance inquiry in the case.
