Residents come forward to protect businessman from gangster in Tharu

Tharu residents, bearing arms, on Tuesday came forward to protect a businessman, who received an extortion threat worth Rs 10 crore few days ago, from gangster Hari Boxer, who is said to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

In the threat call to victim Harjinder Singh Sandhu, the son of the businessman Ranjit Singh Sandhu, the gangster had demanded an extortion and warned him of dire consequences if he denied to oblige him. The residents gathered with their licenced weapons outside the victim’s office on Tuesday, and addressing the gangster, advising him not to indulge in such criminal activities and abide by the norms of Sikhism.

Ranjit Singh is the sewadar of the village gurdwara and one of his sons is the former Sarpanch of Tharu village while the other is a member of the Zila Parishad

The armed supporters have offered to watch his security round the clock.

Riputapan Singh, DSP, city sub-division, said he was not aware of the development.
