Residents demand recarpeting of roads, streets in Khankot village
Residents of Khankot village are expressing frustration over the deplorable condition of roads and streets that were dug up for the installation of sewer lines two years ago.
Despite repeated assurances, the main link road to the village and internal streets have not been recarpeted since the sewer work was completed. Recent rains have worsened the situation, leaving the streets filled with mud and making movement nearly impossible for locals. The issue has caused significant inconvenience to the villagers, who are now demanding urgent action from the Municipal Corporation (MC) and Jandiala MLA Harbhajan Singh to address their grievances.
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of the village, said, “Before the elections, promises were made to recarpet the roads and streets after the completion of the sewer line installation. However, those promises have not been fulfilled. The condition of the streets has become unbearable, especially after the rains.”
Sukhdev Singh, another resident, said, “It has been two years, and we are still waiting for the roads to be repaired. We are unable to move through the mud-filled streets and this neglect has affected our daily lives. We urge the authorities to fulfil their commitments immediately.”
As the main link road, which connects Khankot and several other villages to the city is in bad condition, the movement of traffic has increased on the canal road, which is also in bad shape. The school students are major suffers as the road leading to Guru Tegh Bahadhur School witnessed major potholes. The residents of Khankot village have appealed to the local MLA and the MC to take swift action and recarpet the roads and streets to provide relief to the villagers.
