Amritsar, January 18

Residents of the Majitha Road area are worried over delay in recarpeting work on footpaths of a road alongside a bypass. After the completion of wide road from the bypass to Majitha town, now the PWD has been laying storm water pipes and will recarpet the footpaths with tiles.

The residents are of the view the contractor has been delaying the work deliberately and is winding up the project without carpeting the footpath.

Deepinder Singh Chimani, an industrialist and representative of local residents, said,“The contractor has installed storm sewerage chambers alongside the road but delaying the re-carpeting. Some of the area is still deprived of storm sewers. Now the contractor had stopped the work. We are worried that contractor will not complete the work.” PWD officials claimed that the work would be completed on time. It had been stopped due to foggy session to avoid accidents, officials said.
