Rs 50K stolen from gurdwara golak

Tarn Taran: A sum of Rs 50,000 kept in the golak was stolen by miscreants from Gurdwara Bhai Mahan Singh at Rataul village on Wednesday. The theft came to the notice of village sarpanch Gurdial Singh when he went to the gurdwara to pay obeisance. Gurdial Singh said the golak, the locks of which were broken, was lying unclaimed in the open in the gurdwara complex. A case has been registered. OC

3 booked for abducting teen

Tarn Taran: A teenaged girl was allegedly abducted from a village three weeks ago. A student of Class VIII, the victim had gone to a gurdwara in Goindwal Sahib on July 15 where she was abducted. ASI Kulwinder Kaur recorded the statement of the victim’s father. The police booked Gurjit Singh, his father Lakhbir Singh and mother Jasbir Kaur, residents of Sangha village. The accused had abducted the girl on the pretext of marriage. A case under Sections 363, 366-A and 120-B of the IPC had been registered against the accused, who have not been traced as yet. OC

Finance company employee robbed

Tarn Taran: Three armed persons robbed Rs 50,000 from an employee of a private finance company on the Tarn Taran-Amritsar road near Thathi Khara on Thursday. The victim, Rakesh Kumar, told the police that he used to come to Tarn Taran after collecting installments from customers of the finance firm. When he reached near Thathi Khara village, three armed persons on a motorcycle snatched his cash bag, which contained Rs 50,000. OC

Man acquitted in rape case

Amritsar: Two years after registration of rape case, the local court acquitted Jarnail Singh of Ganda Singh Wala. The judgment was passed on Tuesday. Advocate Namit Singh Mehta said the complainant failed to prove that she was a “minor”. While lodging a complaint, the victim was shown as minor. The girl had allegedly eloped with Jarnail Singh and got married in a gurdwara in Ludhiana in October 2019. After the marriage, she had given her birth certificate in which she was shown as major. However, after a complaint by the girl’s family, the police had arrested Jarnail Singh.
