Acting on a tip-off, the Special Cell of the Amritsar rural police have seized seven Glock pistols (9mm), seven magazines, 2 kg heroin, Rs 2 lakh drug money and arrested three cross-border drug smugglers in this connection.

Those arrested were identified as Jatinder Singh, alias Rosha, a resident of Kaunke village, Ranjeet Singh, alias Jeet, of Dhothian village and Karan of Sarpanch Wala Chowk in Mohakampura locality here.

The SSP, Amritsar (Rural), said the accused were in contact with Pakistani smugglers and recently had retrieved the consignments of weapons and drugs.

“They were going to deliver the consignment using a black-coloured three-wheeler (auto-rickshaw) when they were intercepted by a police party near Boparai Baj Singh village,” he said. He said during search, the police recovered seven Glock pistols (9mm), seven magazines, seven rounds and also impounded the auto-rickshaw. During further investigations, the police also recovered 2kg heroin and Rs 2 lakh of drug money from their possession.

The SSP said a probe was on to establish their forward and backward linkages and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved.

The police have registered a case under the Arms Act at the Lopoke police station here.
