Rusted bomb found in fields

Tarn Taran: The Khemkaran police recovered one rusted bomb buried under the earth in a field in the border area of Lakhna village on Monday. Vishaljit Singh, SP (Investigation), said it must have been kept during the Indo-Pak war in 1965. The SP said the bomb was noticed by Pargat Singh, president of the Gurdwara Baba Zahir Peer Managing Committee, in the village while digging earth in the fields, following which the Khemkaran police were informed. The SP said a bomb disposal squad of the Punjab Police was called to the spot to dispose of the bomb. OC

Artificial limbs given to needy

Amritsar: The district administration organised a camp at the Baba Bakala Civil Hospital to help senior citizens and physically disabled persons here on Monday. The camp was attended by 90 senior citizens and 160 physically disabled persons. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alka Kalia said the purpose was to help these persons lead a more independent life. She said senior citizens would be given spectacles, hearing aid machines and walking sticks and physically disabled given tricycles, wheelchairs, walkers and other equipment. She said those needing artificial limbs were medically examined during the camp. The SDM said all the persons who attended the camp were medically examined. Artificial limbs would be given to needy persons as per the sizes within the next few days. TNS

Man held with tramadol pills

Amritsar: The Chatiwind police arrested a man with 4,000 tramadol tablets here on Sunday. He was identified as Joban Singh of Manawala Kalan. The police said while patrolling near Rampura village, the police got a tip-off that the accused was involved in the smuggling of intoxicating tablets. The informer said he was going from Mehma village to Manawala through a link road. The police set up a checkpoint near Jheete village and arrested the accused with the consignment. He could not produce any document regarding the procurement of medicines. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against him. He was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation following the registration of a case.
