Teachers of government schools organised a protest and gheraoed the office of the District Treasury Officer against the non-payment of their salaries for the months of February and March till date here on Monday.

The protesting teachers under the banner of the Master Cadre Union presented a memorandum to the District Treasury Officer demanding early payment of their salary for the month of February soon. Teachers from across the district participated in the protest.

Gurmit Singh Bhullar, district president, Manjinder Singh Dhillon, Manjinder Singh Lalpura, Parshotam Singh Kaddgill and Ranjit Singh Lauhuka were among others, who addressed on the occasion. They condemned the alleged wrong policies of the state government for which the employees were forced to work without salary.

The teachers raised slogans against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for putting the state into a financial mess. The teachers presented a memorandum of demands to the District Treasury Officer seeking early payment of their salary.
