Harmit Singh Sandhu who was nominated as the halqa in-charge by the AAP leadership on Saturday met a large number of supporters at his Tarn Taran residence who assured him of all help in the forthcoming by-election for the Tarn Taran Vidhan Sabha seat. The seat fell vacant after the death of MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal a month back.
According to the set norms, mostly the halqa in-charges are given the party ticket to contest from the said seat. While addressing his supporters, Harmit Singh Sandhu said that in villages, social relations must not get affected because of political understanding and people should maintain their social contacts on priority basis.
Meanwhile, Anju Verma, a senior leader of the party who was among those opposing Harmit Singh Sandhu's nomination as the party candidate for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election, met Sandhu soon after the announcement made to nominate him as the halqa in-charge on Saturday and said she will abide by the party's decision. Gurdev Singh Sandhu, who was heading the move against Harmit Singh Sandhu, said his nomination as the halqa in-charge was not a
guarantee that he will be given an AAP ticket for the by-election.
