Volunteers of the Sant Nirankari Mission today carried out a cleanliness drive in various parts of the city, including Chattiwind area, here on Sunday. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO also joined in the efforts.  Cleaning of the banks of the Upper Bari Doab Canal (UBDC) from Chatiwind crossing, Taran Wala Pul and Vallah was carried in the third phase of the ‘Saaf Pani, Saaf Man’ drive under ‘Project Amrit’.
ETO said his government has also been conducting cleanliness drive in the entire state for the last three years on a large scale. He appealed to the people not to throw plastic and other waste material in the canal. This contaminates the water because of which aquatic animals are dying in large numbers, he said.  The minister said hundreds of volunteers of the Mission are participating in today’s cleaning drive and the campaign will be carried out in many water bodies across the country, beginning with the Chhath Ghat on Yamuna river.
The aim of the project is to create awareness about water conservation and sanitation, so that future generations can have clean water and a healthy environment.   Congratulating the Mission,
ETO said the campaign will yield meaningful results in the near future and the Mission was already serving humanity by organising blood donation camps etc. Inspired by the teachings of Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, the Mission launched ‘Project Amrit’ in 2023 with the government’s support. The initiative aims not only to ensure the cleanliness of water resources, but also making water conservation an integral part of life.
Joginder Sukhija, secretary, Sant Nirankari Mission, said this massive campaign has been organised simultaneously at more than 1,600 places in more than 900 cities of 27 States and Union Territories. The unprecedented scale of this mega campaign will give it a historic character through which the message of water conservation and cleanliness will reach people more effectively.
