Sarhali firing incident: Two succumb to injuries

A businessman and one of the three gangsters injured in a cross-firing incident in the Sarhali area have succumbed to their injuries. Due to the critical condition of the remaining two injured gangsters, they have been referred from Civil Hospital to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar for further treatment.

The deceased businessman has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Thathian Mahantan village. He passed away on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar. The gangster who died has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh (23), a resident of Chabal. He was declared brought dead at the hospital following the firing incident.

The other two injured gangsters have been identified as Ekampreet Singh (22) of Chabal and Rakesh Singh (21) of Bugga village.

As per reports, three gangsters arrived on a motorcycle at Thathian Mahantan village late Thursday night and opened fire on Gurpreet Singh. In response, ASI Pargat Singh, Gurpreet’s friend Sakattar Singh and others, who were armed, chased the assailants to nearby Mohanpur village. A second exchange of fire ensued, during which all three gangsters sustained injuries.

The post-mortem of gangster Jashanpreet Singh was conducted at the local Civil Hospital by a board of three doctors in the presence of the Duty Magistrate. Police was deployed at the hospital to prevent any untoward incident.
