Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi has taken suo motu notice of a case involving the abuse of a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) from Sarangara village under the Rajasansi constituency,
and sought a report from the SSP.
Jasvir Singh Garhi said the matter came to his notice through social media, where a person was seen hurling caste-based abuses at a family belonging to the SC. Taking cognisance of this, the commission had initiated legal action.
He said the panel was committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of SC communities in the state and that strict action would be taken against those spreading casteism in violation of the constitutional provisions.
