Taking suo motu notice, Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi on Monday sought a report from Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh in a case involving caste-based abuse against a Scheduled Caste individual from Sarangara village, located on Ramtirth Road under the Rajasansi constituency.

Providing details, Garhi said the matter came to his attention through social media, where a video showed an individual hurling caste-based slurs at a Scheduled Caste family. Taking cognisance of the incident, the commission has initiated legal action.

“We have requested a detailed report from the SSP, Amritsar Rural, and appropriate action will be taken against the accused,” he stated.
