SC/ST status sought for Sikligar, Vanjara, Gujjar communities
Amritsar, July 19
During a meeting with National Minorities Commissioner Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura, BJP leader Sarchand Singh has demanded SC/ST status for Sikligar, Vanjara and Gujjar communities.
Sarchand requested Lalpura to take up the issue with the Centre so that the social, political and economic status of these communities could be bettered. He said in Punjab, the SC/STs and BCs were being provided benefits by the government.
He, however, complained that in many other states, Sikhs from these communities were considered as the general and were not provided any benefits of the social schemes to which they are entitled.
