Amritsar: Manav Kumar of DAV College, who cleared the Air Force Combined admission test, will soon join the Indian Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. Principal Amardeep Gupta congratulated Manav on the achievement and wished him the best for the future. The principal said the Air Force Academy was the training ground for Indian Air Force pilots, ground duty and technical officers, commissioned officers. Apart from this, it provides training to officers of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. NSS Officer Prof Sanjeev Dutta said Manav was a stupendous cadet of the NCC Air Wing, who achieved this position with his hard work and dedication. He said Manav was a source of inspiration for other cadets. He further added that Air Force combined exam was conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force for various posts in flying and ground duty (technical and non-technical). Candidates who successfully pass the AFCAT are called for the interview by the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB).
Mental health awareness programme
Amritsar: The Department of Psychology at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) is taking significant steps to address the growing mental health challenges in marginalised communities. Recognising the urgent need for mental health awareness, early identification and access to psychological support, the department has initiated outreach programmes in government schools to promote resilience, mental wellness and coping strategies. Dr Rupan Dhillon, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Psychology, and Balbinder Singh, Assistant Professor, said the department conducted a mental health awareness programme at Angels Public School, Roranwala, and Government Elementary School, Gharinda. The session focused on addressing anxiety, depression and girl empowerment while promoting gender sensitisation and personality development. Students were encouraged to openly discuss their concerns, fostering an environment of support and understanding. They said an engaging programme was held at Government Elementary School, Gharinda.
GNDU students get hands-on experience
Amritsar: The Law Department of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) witnessed growth in its internship programme over the past year. Coordinator Bimaldeep Singh said during the winter internship 2024, 24 students interned at the Advocate General's Office while four undertook judicial internships. As many as 62 students worked with high court advocates, 24 gained experience at district courts and 28 participated in legal aid programmes. The summer internship 2024 further expanded opportunities, with three students interning at the Supreme Court, 33 with high court advocates, eight in judicial internships, 35 at the Advocate General's Office, and 16 at district courts.
