Schools, colleges hold Diwali exhibition, fete ahead of festival

BBK DAV College for Women in Amritsar hosted its annual edition of a ‘Diwali Fiesta’ exhibition to showcase talent, which includes display of student-made craft, art and entrepreneurial products. The college hosted the event around the festival, featuring a variety of creative works like decorative lamps, jewellery and other hand-made items to encourage students for skill development and self-reliance.

Student-made products like decorative lamps, jewellery, bags and other craft are typically featured. It also highlights the entrepreneurial skills of the students.

The Post-Graduate Department of Fashion Designing of Khalsa College too organised a two-day Diwali festival, ‘The Enlightening Diyas-2025’, which saw students of the Department of Fashion Designing at Khalsa College, create and sell handcrafted Diwali items.

The inaugural ceremony of the programme was conducted by Dr Atam Singh Randhawa, principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar and Dr Mehal Singh, vice-chancellor, Khalsa University, Amritsar.

The exhibition had hand-made home decorative items for Diwali, hand-embroidered suits, tie-and-dye dupattas, diyas, hand-painted bed sheets, hand-painted pillow covers, cushions, baby bedding, knitted baby suits and more. “The purpose was to showcase the skill of our students and also provide them with a chance to earn through some festival shopping,” said Dr Randhawa. He added that the purpose is also to encourage the students to explore gainful employment through practical skills.

Spring Dale Senior School organised its annual festival ‘Litart.com-2025’. Ahead of Diwali, Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said that the idea behind the event is to provide a platform where the young minds from different schools across the zone, can exhibit and

polish their literary, business and artistic skills. Sandhu elaborated that the event comprises events in the form of competitions like debate, calligraphy, painting and business vision etc.

Sandhu shared that competing with 95 participants from 13 schools across the zone during various rounds of the event, The Millennium School was adjudged overall winner of the event.

School principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma congratulated the winning teams while recognising the efforts of those who could not make it through to the final rounds. Participation itself is an achievement and teams not wearing winner’s hat are also equally distinguished,” said Sharma.
