Scribe booked for fraud

Tarn Taran: Bobby Singh, a journalist of Thatha village, has been booked under Sections 420 of the IPC and 51b of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, by the police for corrupt practice. The police on Monday said the case had been registered on a complaint of Jaskaran Singh of the same village. The complainant said villagers had organised a langar for the welfare of humanity amid the coronavirus pandemic and to publish news about it on a news channel, the accused had taken Rs 2,000 from them. But, neither had he got their news flashed on TV or published in any newspaper nor he returned their money, he said. OC

Debt-ridden farmer ends life

Tarn Taran: A mentally disturbed and debt-ridden farmer, Gulab Singh (54) of Raspulpur village, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his native village. The deceased consumed the poisonous substance on Saturday and was admitted to a private hospital and died after he was discharged from the hospital. Relatives of the deceased said Gulab was under debt and was disturbed over decreasing source of income amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He was also disturbed due to some family tensions among his daughters and their in-laws. OC
