To celebrate the “Shaheedi Saptah” (Martyrdom Week), several social, religious and cultural organisations held events engaging the community in commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the four Sahibzadas.
Akal Purakh Di Fauj, a cultural organisation, hosted various competitions for students titled “Saada Virsa, Saada Parivaar” at the Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj chowk. Poetry, Dastaar tying, martial arts and essay writing competitions were held in which students from 60 schools participated.
Advocate Jaswinder Singh, convener of Akal Purakh Di Fauj, said that the events were an attempt to inspire the young generation by making them aware of their history and the sacrifice of Sahibzadas. He shared that the organisation is promoting Sikh history and literature through online and offline programmes across the young generation, making them connect with their cultural roots.
The Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) organised a light and sound show ‘Wah Pargatio Mard Agamra, dedicated to the life of Guru Gobind Singh and the unparalleled martyrdom of Mata Gujar Kaur and four Sahibzadas. Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, president, CKD, attended as the chief guest. The light and sound show was directed by Narinder Sanghi and it depicted the life story of Guru Gobind Singh, the unparalleled bravery and fearlessness shown by the elder Sahibzadas, Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh in the battlefield, and the heart-wrenching torture meted out to the younger Sahibzadas, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the description of the martyrdom stories of their being buried alive, the creation of Khalsa Panth and the history of Guruship.
Voice of Amritsar, a non-profit organisation in the city, will be organising a blood donation camp on December 29, at Government Medical College grounds. This is the annual mega blood donation drive that the organisation dedicates to the martydrom of four Sahibzadas.
