On the instructions of Supreme Court, District and Sessions Judge, Tarn Taran, Priya Sood, convened a meeting of officials concerned on Monday to initiate reforms in jails in the district. The meeting was attended by judicial, police and jail authorities. Superintendent, Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal spoke about the shortage of staff and informed that of the total 470 posts, 297 were lying vacant.

He said that the post of jail wardens had been filled and they were receiving training in Patiala. Out of the total 17 walkie-talkie sets, only seven were functional. Dhaliwal said that there were a total of 220 CCTV cameras of which only 100 were in working order. The Jail Superintendent appealed to the higher authorities to do the needful.
