Though, the incumbent government has failed to announce any major development project in past years, the residents are upset over long delay in the completion of ongoing project. The residents are expecting that after jumping several deadlines now these projects will be completed in this year.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has constructing flyover bridges on three locations around the city. The work at Daburji is almost completed whereas the construction has been stopped at Vallah and Loharka Road on bypass. Recently Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with the administrative officers NHAI and reviewed the ongoing works and directed the officers to expedite the work of the National Highway at Loharka Road, Tangra, Manawala. These projects are hanging in fire for three years.
Rego bridge
The railway authorities demolished the 118-year-old dilapidated bridge, a relic of the British era, and constructing a new one in its place. The bridge, which has exceeded its intended lifespan of 100 years, is in a state of disrepair and is long overdue for replacement. The new bridge, estimated to cost Rs 50 crore, will be constructed within a span of two years. The existing two-lane bridge will be replaced with a four-lane structure, which will provide significant relief to city dwellers.
The upgraded bridge, known as the New Rego Bridge, will greatly improve the city’s traffic system, which is currently plagued by congestion. With the additional two lanes, traffic flow is expected to become smoother, reducing travel time and frustration for commuters. Once the new bridge is completed, however, the city’s traffic woes are expected to ease significantly.
Sports Complex at Saktari
The under construction indoor and outdoor sports complex at Saktari Bagh is almost complete and is expected to be inaugurated soon. This comprehensive sports facility, developed by the Amritsar Improvement Trust, offers an impressive array of 20 different games and activities. From children to teenagers, youth, adults, and seniors, everyone can find something to play here. The project was initially approved during the Akali-BJP government’s tenure, but progress was too slow. The sports complex will offer an extensive range of indoor and outdoor games.
