The stagnant sewerage water on the local Noordi road has been creating trouble for many for over three months. Despite repeated requests to officials of the local Municipal Council and public representatives, the problem is not getting resolved. The stagnant water is not only emitting a foul smell but also causing altercation among commuters passing through the road.
Jaswinder Singh Manochahal, Chairperson, Park Avenue Social Welfare Society, Tarn Taran, said the problem of sewerage blockage occurred three years back and they had brought the matter to the notice of elected representatives, MLAs, municipal councillors and the officials concerned may a time. He said that the problem continues all the year round and whenever the public puts pressure on the administration, it gets resolved and then appears again.
Manochahal said that for the last three months, sewage has again spilled on to the road causing inconvenience for the Park Avenue residents living near the road where the water is accumulating. The stagnant water is causing a foul smell and is polluting the atmosphere and also contaminating the groundwater. He said that residents of the area and shopkeepers have submitted their demands to the officials many a time but the officials were not taking note of it.
The shopkeepers who have their establishments near the road said that the situation remains tense here the whole day when speeding four-wheelers and two-wheelers splash the dirty water on pedestrians. Sometimes, it results in clashes too. The residents and shopkeepers have demanded a permanent solution to the problem.
Arwinderpal Singh, SDM-cum-Administrator, in spite of repeated attempts made to contact him for his comments, neither responded to mobile calls nor to WhatsApp messages.
