Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a sub-committee, comprising SGPC’s senior vice-president Raghujit Singh Virk, general secretary Sher Singh Mandwala and executive member Daljit Singh Bhinder, to probe the allegations levelled against Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.

Notably, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Gurpreet Singh, who claimed that he was married to the Jathedar’s sister-in-law, had lodged a complaint with the SGPC president against the Jathedar on December 16.

He had alleged that the Jathedar interfered in his married life and allured his wife, leading to his separation. He claimed that the Jathedar used his influence to harass him and entangled him in court cases. He further alleged that he was an employee of the SGPC but lost his job and slipped into depression.

Till the SGPC zeroed in on any conclusion, Takht Damdama Sahib’s head granthi has been entrusted with the responsibility to take care of the Jathedar’s duties temporarily. The committee was constituted during the SGPC’s executive body meeting, chaired by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami at Gurdwara Degsar Sahib, Katana, in Ludhiana.

Dhami said after deliberations over the complaint, it was unanimously decided by the executive members to investigate the matter thoroughly, keeping in view the sanctity of the Jathedar’s post.
