SGPC’s legal notice to X on fake account

The SGPC has sent a legal notice to X, demanding initiation of action against a fake X account of the Sikh organisation. This notice is addressed to resident grievance officer, chief compliance officer and nodal officer of X Corp.

The parody account with a little tweak in URL and SGPC’s logo ran on the social platform X, allegedly spreading wrong and derogatory information about Sikh religion, it was observed. The official X handle of the SGPC is @SGPCAmritsar.

Advocate Amanbir Siali in his notice stated that spreading and encouraging hate propaganda against any religion or religious organisation by social media platforms, like X, under the policy of parody accounts is a violation of the IPC, Information Technology Act- 2001 and Information Technology Rules-2021.
